It was just before five pm on a Saturday and though we were promised a dry and fresh afternoon, it had not ceased raining! James and I were seated discussing the weekend's football, prepared for the next fuel drain for the day to arrive. Before long we got a phone call from a young lady on a business expedition who had pulled into the Texaco filling station in Sucksted Green and put the wrong fuel in her diesel son's Chevrolet Corsica rental car by mistake. She was somewhat affected it seemed, telling me "I simply can't believe I've destroyed the car! I'm just so used to filling up my petrol car that I completely didn't remember I was operating a diesel!" I advised her to relax and not to worry, plus that these things sadly can happen. She had managed to get the car to a secure spot and, as it was no more than a few minutes off from us, we could arrive at her swiftly. The wrong fuel was extracted and she was able to get back to the Premier Inn she was lodging at. Even though we got very soaked, it was all worth it to see her drive off satisfied and not so concerned. A job in Essex well done in my opinion!

The 3 things you MUST know about fuel contamination!

Boat Fuel Drains

If you find you have the incorrect fuel, or contaminated fuel (most commonly water contaminated or degraded fuel) in a boat we can help you get it out. Providing the boat is either dry-docked, or parked close enough to parking spot we should be able to reach the tanks and remove the contaminated fuel. We have carried out quite a few fuel drains at piers and boatyards in the uk.

AdBlue In Diesel

All over Essex we have seen an increasing number of occurrences of AdBlue contamination wherein a motorist has put AdBlue inside their diesel fuel tank. This is mostly due to motorists not knowing the way to use it (pay attention: it is not a fuel additive), and partially simply because the filler caps for diesel and AdBlue are frequently right near to each other on the automobile.

Now, what's the trouble with having AdBlue in the diesel car?

As the product is primarily deionised water, it's nearly as good as putting water into your tank. Diesel and water tend not to blend at all and attempting to run a diesel car on water is not going to work. Additionally, the urea is very corrosive to the fuel system hoses and seals and is prone to crystalising, obstructing injectors and filters. If you find you put AdBlue in a fuel tank get it out as soon as possible. And absolutely never crank the car - not even to move it away from the pump. In the instance that you have started the vehicle you would most likely have to have the complete fuel system purged and fuel filters changed.

In case you get in this scenario don’t fret or panic! Contact us, the UK’s Premium fuel contamination business. Our engineers possess the specialised competence and working experience to get you back on your way swiftly and efficiently, no mess, no fuss.

Wrong Fuel in Car London - Petrol in Diesel Car Sucksted Green

I'm not very enthusiastic about doing work Sundays, and a week ago was the same. I had only just departed the wife and kids filled with a magnificent Sunday roast cooked by the better half, and I was off to assist a guy after he had put the incorrect petrol in his racing green Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG. He was stationed in Sucksted Green hence I arrived there very quickly. As I arrived behind the car and started work he said to me "Thank God! I had my concentration on other things and didn't grasp that I've put the wrong fuel in my petrol vehicle. Is it likely I brought on any problems simply by running it?" I said truth be told there probably should not be damage and that I'd drain the wrong fuel as soon as possible for him. Obviously I removed the contaminated fuel from the vehicle and put in some correct fuel, and so one more content motorist could continue his trip with no difficulty. The man did not stop thanking me, and this is what makes carrying out work on Sundays in Essex just a small bit better for me!

Wrong Fuel Doctor Sucksted Green - Fuel Rescue Sucksted Green

It truly was the graveyard shift. It was around sunrise and almost noone was about. It had been pretty quiet so far, and Paul and I were sitting around looking through a number of old articles. That was a rare restful hour in Essex. It was that quiet that the moment the telephone rang I jumped with surprise! The customer on the phone explained: "I've ended my evening shift and foolishly poured petrol in the diesel old Mercedes R-Class in error". I asked him to let us know just where he was and we hit the road, arriving in Sucksted Green only half an hour later. The incorrect fuel was cleaned up and removed from the vehicle. He thanked us profusely for coming out so fast. While we were returning to the office we noticed two ladies at the edge of the road who seemed to have a puncture. As a result we pulled over to help them change it, much to their elation.

How to find out if I put the wrong fuel in my car?

If you’ve just filled up at a petrol station and the cars starts to act a bit strange you might start to wonder if you accidentally put the wrong fuel in it.

Well, there are a few things to can check that will be able to tell you:

  1. How is the car responding? There are some very common misfuel symptoms which can be a good indicator of wrong fuel:
    • Loss of engine power – can feel like the car has run out of fuel
    • A lot of smoke (more than usual)
    • Engine coughing or starting to splutter
    • Won’t start – or keeps stalling.
  2. Look at your fuel receipt. It will state clearly if you filled up with diesel or unleaded. If you don’t have the receipt, you can often return to the petrol station where you filled up and give them the date and time (and pump) where you refueled and they will often be able to give you a VAT receipt.
  3. Smell it. Diesel and petrol have very distinctly different smells. Anyone familiar with the motor industry should be able to help you with this. Or you could even get another car to park alongside and smell the fuel caps of both, comparing them to determine what the fuel type is.
  4. Call us to come out and assess the car. In the majority of cases we will be able to tell if the car has been misfueled before beginning work on it. If we discover that the vehicle does not need a fuel drain, you will only be charged a call-out fee.
